Sumona Smith

Dr. Sumona Smith is a vascular surgeon with Atlanta Heart Associates. She came to Atlanta Heart Associates from Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville and Braselton. Prior to moving to Georgia she spent the earlier portion of her career at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she served several years as an assistant professor and enjoyed teaching/educating the next generation of physicians. She received her medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson MS. After completing her training in General Surgery (and research fellowship) at Emory University, she went on to complete her Vascular Surgery Fellowship at UT Southwestern in Dallas TX.

Dr. Smith has been practicing medicine for over 20 years and is board certified in general and vascular surgery. She believes in the “patient first” philosophy of care and understands that each clinical presentation is unique and requires an individualized treatment plan. She works closely with consulting physicians to provide a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Her clinical interests relate to patients with diabetic vascular disease and ischemic foot ulcers. She is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.
