Pritam Polkampally
Pritam Polkampally, MD received his medical degree from India’s premier medical school, Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India after receiving the ‘Dean’s Commendation’ for each year of his medical school training. Following graduation, he completed his Internal Medicine residency at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Polkampally distinguished himself during his residency training and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He also served as a chief medical resident and was awarded the “Outstanding Senior Resident of the Year” award in recognition of his hard work and dedication towards improving the health of his patients.
After completing his Internal Medicine residency, Dr. Polkampally worked as an academic hospitalist at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Richmond, Virginia. He collaborated extensively with the Division of Cardiology and co-authored 9 papers in peer reviewed journals and 3 book chapters. In addition, he was also a co-investigator on two institutional research projects at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Following his experience as an academic hospitalist at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Dr. Polkampally was awarded the “Intramural Research Training Fellowship” in advanced cardiovascular imaging at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. He then completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia.
His academic, clinical and research interests include prevention, early diagnosis and management of coronary and peripheral artery disease using advanced cardiovascular imaging and non-invasive as well as minimally invasive interventional strategies. He also specializes in management of varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency and uses a step-wise approach encompassing conservative and minimally invasive strategies.
Dr. Polkampally is a member of the American College of Cardiology and The Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He was voted a Top Doctor by Georgia Trend Magazine in 2020 and 2021. His experience and training has uniquely prepared him to provide a high level of care to the patients at Atlanta Heart Associates.
When not working, Dr. Polkampally enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys watching football and plays tennis and soccer.
