Following the completion of his Internal Medicine residency, Dr. Polkampally worked as an academic hospitalist at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Richmond, Virginia in 2007-08. He collaborated extensively with the Division of Cardiology and co-authored 9 papers in peer reviewed journals and 3 book chapters. In addition, he was also a co-investigator on two institutional research projects at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Following his experience as an academic hospitalist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Dr. Polkampally was awarded the “Intramural Research Training Fellowship” in advanced cardiovascular imaging at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. He then completed his cardiology fellowship from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia following which he completed an additional year of training in interventional cardiology. Dr. Polkampally’s research interests involve improving the management of coronary artery disease, particularly related to prevention, non-invasive and interventional therapies.
When not working, Dr. Polkampally enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys watching football and plays tennis and soccer.
